受冠病疫情影响，往年10月主办毕业礼的新工大把去年的毕业活动延后到今年，在实行安全管理措施的情况下举行。近2200名毕业生当中，约八成将出席现场典礼，分别在11场仪式领取毕业证书。
根据新工大针对毕业生所做的初步调查，截至去年底，91%毕业生已找到工作，包括部分时间等性质的工作。除了自办的课程，新工大也提供与海外大学联办的课程。由于各课程结业的时期不同，具体的就业调查有待公布。
新加坡交通部长王乙康担任昨天毕业典礼的主宾，他致辞时指出，新工大自2009年成立以来便强调应用学习，通过综合学术职场培训计划，让学生汲取实际的工作经验。独特的教育模式让学生享有良好的就业前景。
2019年的就业调查显示，新工大毕业生有近91%在半年内就业，其中84%从事全职工作。超过55%在毕业前获得实习公司的工作聘约。月薪中位数从2015年的3000元增至2019年的3500元。
他指出，新工大毕业生的就业情况与其他大学如新加坡国立大学、南洋理工大学相近。新工大为各领域栽培不少杰出毕业生，已能与其他大学平起平坐。它目前提供的本科生与研究生课程超过40项，每年录取约2900名新生，收生人数在各大学中属第三多。接下来，新工大也将加强跨学科学习，计划为15%至20%的课程注入跨学科内容。
去年，多所大学取消或延后毕业典礼。也是上一任教育部长的王乙康昨天在面簿发文表示，很荣幸能出席今年的首场毕业礼。“这是我们一路来应变，保持坚韧与毅力的另一个里程碑。”
新工大校长陈添顺教授致辞时形容这是众所期待的特别时刻，也感谢出席者的配合，包括进行检测和遵守安全措施。
所有出席者得接受快速抗原检测。每名毕业生可邀请两人出席，他们须自行安排在典礼前接受检测。校方将承担毕业生的检测费用，并为学生的宾客提供津贴。因出席人数有限，毕业礼也通过线上直播。
修读综合保健类课程 首届共211名学生毕业
毕业生当中有211名是修读综合保健类课程的首届学生。新工大是本地第一所提供放射诊断、职能治疗、放射治疗与物理治疗大学课程的学府。
首届毕业生杨雅婷(25岁)与陈喜文(27岁)分别在SPD(前称新加坡体障人士协会)以及邱德拔医院担任职能治疗师。他们去年4月毕业后，也花了两个月的时间在“冠病19客工援助联盟”担任义工，为客工策划活动和宣导材料，希望在病毒阻断期帮助客工纾解压力。
陈喜文从初级学院毕业后曾到医院参加一日的跟班计划，了解职能治疗的工作后产生兴趣。他就读新工大时有机会到邱德拔医院实习，从而获得工作机会。
杨雅婷认为，大学的实习让她有机会接触疗养院、慈怀护理中心、儿科医院等不同的工作环境。她就读义安理工时修读儿童心理学与学前教育，决定进修职能治疗来帮助特需者。
这名全国福利理事会奖学金得主目前在SPD协助特需孩童与青年。杨雅婷说：“除了帮助孩童应付日常生活与学习，我们也得指导看护者如何更好地支持孩子。职能治疗的工作很有意义，庆幸能在本地大学进修。”
